This is not Islam
The events that have transpired in Egypt are extremely unfortunate and need to be condemned by the Egyptian Government, most importantly by its leader, President Muhammed Hosni Mubarak.
I, as an Egyptian Christian, am horrified by these attacks but understand why they occur. The Egyptian government led by Hosni Mubarak and his gang of thugs, the National Democratic Party are trying to stay in power by displaying to the world what would happen if the Muslim Brotherhood were in power. They show the Brotherhood's so called intolerance towards the Copts by hiring thugs to attack churches.*
As proven by the Parliamentary elections, the quasi-secular government of Hosni Mubarak wants to destroy any form of secularist thought by going against al ghad or al wafd secularist parties, leaving them in shambles. It also wants to constrict the debate to be between the National Democratic Party vs. the Islamists. Mubarak's regime is increasingly becoming afraid of the rising power of the Brotherhood, so it threatens the Copts and other secularists through these spectacles. The Copts should not go against Islam or the Brotherhood, but go against the government for playing these dirty games. The NDP cares not for Muslims or Christians, but to protect its on interests.
It's time that the Copts become more vocal in their disapproval of the National Democratic Party, Muhammed Honsi Mubarak and his goons are not going to protect the Copts any more than what has happened in the past. The war isn't between Islam and Christianity, but between Democracy and Tyranny.
Through our silence we have become pawns. It's time to protest! Both Muslims and Copts should band together as brothers to bring Egypt to the future.

* I do not approve of the Muslim Brotherhood. As a side note I do not agree with our Church's policy at fostering hatred towards Islam, this isn't a Christian element and the Islam bashing must come to an end.

I'm ashamed to admit I was surprised to read this here, teaches me right to underestimate people.
Well, I am truly deeply impressed by your rational way and reasonable attitude.
I am stunned by your ability to think and forgive when everybody else is boiling.
I am very scared from what is happening , everybody is on the edge and the religious leaderships are not making it better.
The government is delivering mixed messages to copts. they want to tell them that we are better than brotherhood cause we would protect you. This government is using copts and muslims to stay in power, they do not mind burning the whole country to stay in Power.

It is good of you to show patience and rationality in a time of great adversity for the Copts. I think that the tyrant and his gang are opressing and persecuting all Egyptians Copts and Muslims alike. What happened is a cowrdly act that the majority of Muslims do not approve of. Such acts , no matter who is behind them, ultimately will hurt both Copts and Muslims and we should work together to stop them.
maybe it was some islamist, not the government. but u have a point, there is no length to which the government will not go to consolidate its power.

I've been going to church all my life (both in Cairo and here in Australia)and have never ever heard a bad word uttered towards anyone, Muslim or not.
I'm not sure why you think the church is fostering hatred towards Islam when our pope Shenouda said "the Muslims of Egypt are our flesh, blood and bones"??

I must apologise because I'm very confused. I still can't believe that there is hatred from the church toward any other religion.
In my humble opinion, and if we want to save our church from becoming a place where any religion can be "bashed" (because you're right, it isn't Christian to do this), if anyone hears or experiences such sentiment in the church, we need to stand up and say "it's not on!" before it's too late.
In my experience, even when Al Kosheh happened and people were angry and hurt, the priest said we should just pray and that harbouring hatred and anger will only harm us and it;s against the teachings of Jesus and the church. That's why it baffles me that you experienced otherwise, and it alarms me as well. The last thing we need is for the church to let herself stoop down to the level of condemnation and hatred.

Our Coptic Orthodox Church does not, and has never taught hatred, but only love, especially towards the enemy. So much blood has been spilled because of this disease called "Islam." How do you change a philosphy, a religion, a way of life? Kill them with your love, and the power from on High. Orthodoxy or death, my friends and brothers! They may destroy our bodies, but not our souls.
